Radio City Playlist Session

“Our weapon is music…” So begins the PLAYLIST SESSION album. The US band Fort Knox Five, one of the most influential funk bands kicks the record off. DJ Patiffe brings his science of electronica/drum”n”bass mixed with traditional orchestral sounds from Brazilian samba. Following this comes the elegant sounds of the Swedish group SUMO, their “tribute” to electro-jazz reminding us of the best of bands such as St Germain. Anima Sound System presents itself as the most attractive collective in the Hungarian electronica scene. Their song “World at War” aims to open our eyes to the current political situation, including themes such as war, unemployment and other social issues. Next, Watch TV and The Primetimes, led by Rubén García offers an unbeatable soul/electro track with a backing of wind instruments reminiscent of the best of 60s soul. The German duo Bozo Bajou come next with “Killer”, a great jazz-reggae dance track. Also on the album are the Israeli outfit Balkan Beat Box, with their hip-hop/electronica/fusion sound.

Representing the Arab world on the record is the band Aiwa, offering a mix of the traditional Arabic music and a Western, electronic sound. They are the kings of Eastern breakbeat/hip-hop. We then cross the Atlantic to meet Intima, a unique Argentinian band. Since 2000 their aim has been to change what we understand by electronic music, creating their own breakbeat/drum”n”bass. The German duo Eastenders comes next, filling the dance floors with their irresistible “drunken, Balkan drum”n”bass” track, as they like to call it. Gecko Turner, from the southern Spanish region of Extremadura, is a specialist in musical changes, using different influences in all his tracks with sounds from Brazil, Jamaica or Mississippi. With his track “Mojaita” his destination this time is Cuba. The Brazilian Rosalia de Souza comes next with her track “Maria Moita”, a rich mix of jazz, bossa nova, and more modern sounds such as drum”n”bass to create a classy, stylish music. The Valencian music scene is represented on the album by the group Kruchenko. Their sound, a fusion of chanson française and Balkan influences, is passionate and controversial. Quantic, an English artist involved in a multitude of projects (eight records in four years and 30 remixes) celebrates in his track “En Focus” the coming together of his talent as a composer of rhythmic music and the hip-hop group Trinidad in a song sung in French. And what better group than Ojos de Brujo to close this second volume of the album. The leaders of the alternative Spanish music scene display all their genius with a remix of one of their classics “Ventilaor r-80”.
